Gabillonhouse

The Gabillonhaus in Bräuhof, located directly on the Grundlsee, named after its builders, the actors Ludwig and Zerline Gabillon, was owned by the family for more than a century. From the very beginning, it was a place of encounter and artistic exchange, where artists from various fields gathered. This spirit of openness and hospitality should also be preserved in the future.

In 1987, the actor Romuald Pekny took on this idea and further developed it. Together with his wife Eva Petrus-Pekny, a designer, and Adelheid Picha, a professor, actress, and reciter, he founded the Ausseer Kultursommer (AKU), which led to the present-day “Arche am Grundlsee”. The aim was not only to preserve the house as a cultural meeting point but also to consciously open it up for the people of the region and their guests. In 1990, the musician Johannes Daxner joined the team.

To also implement this idea spatially, Romuald Pekny had the building remodeled: through a bold intervention, a small event hall was created, which still serves as the setting for readings, concerts, and cultural encounters today.
