Deer pear blossom

Hirschbirn blossom

The Pöllauer Hirschbirne pear tree dominates the landscape in the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park. Its white blossoms transform the rolling hills into an idyllic spring backdrop. This traditional Styrian pear variety grows along hiking trails, orchards and old farms, where it is refined into juice, cider, fine brandy and regional specialities for the local gastronomy.

Apple blossom

In mid-April, the Styrian Apple Road blossoms in delicate pink and white. At the Blossom Festival in the apple village of Puch, a bike tour through blossoming orchards with refreshment stops is an experience for all the senses. From April to May, the Blossom Weeks invite you to enjoy delightful hikes, accompanied by regional specialities in farm shops and at restaurants in the apple country.

Crocus & dandelion

Colourful harbinger of spring: crocuses cover the Teichalm alpine pastures in spring. Thousands of white and purple flowers, also known as Alpine saffron, transform the damp alpine meadows into an impressive sea of flowers. At the beginning of May, bright yellow carpets of dandelions follow, which not only delight the eye along the Tischlein-deck-dich cycle tour, but can also be enjoyed as a culinary experience.

Spring knot flower

Spring awakens: in Mühlwald in the fertile Ilztal valley, the spring snowflake shows its first blossoms at the ‘Schneeglöckerlplatz’. Cycling along the river in the Raabtal valley, the delicate green colours of nature reveal a fresh landscape. Spring has arrived and invites you to enjoy the awakening of nature.

Snake´s head

The snake's head fritillary is a rare species of lily that is now only found sporadically in Europe. When it blooms around Easter, thousands of nodding flowers transform the meadows into a sea of dark red blossoms – a spectacle that lasts only one to two weeks before the plants disappear into the fresh green of the meadows. Chess flower meadows are only found in eastern Austria: in eastern Styria near Großsteinbach and in southern Burgenland.

Here the heart is biking

For tight calves

Spring means getting on your bike. In Eastern Styria, you cycle along paths that quicken the pulse and slow down everyday life. Sometimes brisk, sometimes leisurely, sometimes with a view, sometimes with a stop for refreshments. Somewhere between speed and pleasure, you suddenly realise: happiness rides on two wheels.

This is where the heart hikes

On the track of nature

For all those who want to get out and explore, the spring awakening in Eastern Styria is a real adventure.
