This round tour of the peaks above the Teichalm is a real alpine tour for the whole family, always with a view and several places to stop for refreshments.

The Heulantsch loop connects the Sommeralm with the Teichalm. The highlight of this beautiful alpine round is the 1,473 m high Heutlantsch summit with its views: from the Plankogel over the Teichalm to the Hochlantsch. The tour is accessible early in the year and can also be done with snowshoes in winter. Several huts and inns along the way invite you to take a break.

The tour starts on the Teichalm, the centre of the nature park. There is a lot to see around the Teichalmsee, for example the landmark of the Almenland: the wooden ox, which stands for the ALMO beef production in the region. Right next to the lake is the moor nature trail, which leads around the Teichalm high moor; display boards explain the formation of the moor and the fauna and flora. The hike can also be combined with a visit to the Almerlebnispark climbing garden or a boat trip on the lake. And of course with a stop at one of the establishments on the lake.

For those who would like to go on a really big tour, the Heulantsch round can be combined with the Siebenkögel Sommeralm trail to form a Teichalm - Sommeralm summit circuit.

The tour is easy to walk, but leads right through the pasture area. Please refrain from hiking with dogs during the grazing season from early June to early October (weather permitting). Please observe the rules for interacting with grazing livestock.

Start: Teichalmsee

  • We start at Teichalmsee lake right next to Holzochsen, climb over the pasture fence and turn right at “Heulantsch/Sommeralm, trail no. 745/45.
  • The exit of the Teichalmmoor is now on the right below us, but we keep to the left and walk along the fence uphill towards Htl. Pierer
  • Shortly after the Pierer staff house, we walk through the pasture gate and then immediately turn right onto the wide farm track (Berglerweg) towards “Sommeralm/Harrerhütte.” We can now see the Osser ahead of us.
  • We go around a new house, cross several pasture bridges, and walk out to the solitary wooden hut at the top left. From here, we can already see the small bridge over the Mixnitzbach stream at the bottom right.
  • As soon as we see the meadow path downhill, we turn right, cross the Mixnitzbach stream, and continue to the Harrerhütte on the other side of Sommeralmstraße.
  • Passing the Harrerhütte parking lot, we now continue left on the forest path.
  • Keeping parallel to Sommeralmstraße and the Mixnitzbach stream, we soon reach the forest, where we keep left at the fork in the path.
  • We climb over the pasture fence and are now on the meadow in front of the Pension-Camping Holzmeister.
  • We cross the meadow and the Mixnitzbach stream and reach the Pension-Camping Holzmeister.
  • Above the guesthouse, we continue along the country road to the right until we reach the “Moosholt” entrance. Ahead of us, we can see the wind turbine on the Sommeralm.
  • At “Moosholt,” we now take the hiking trail on the left and continue uphill towards “Sommeralm, trail no. 745.”
  • We cross the slopes of the Holzmeister lifts and continue towards Sommeralm/Kerschbaumgatterl.
  • Through the forest and across pastures, we come to the Kerschbaumalm cross, where we turn left and continue uphill towards “Strasseggwirt/Haberlstallalm.”
  • Before the Bischofskreuz pilgrim's cross (behind the wooden fence), we turn left and continue along the pasture fence, always in the direction of “Stoahandhütte/Teichalm, trail no. 27.” Here, we have to climb over pasture fences again and again.
  • Passing the mountain station of the Holzmeisterlifte, we come to a depression near the “Stoahandhütte.”
  • Staying on trail no. 27, we walk over the Nestlbodner Kogel and the Grubbauer Kogel towards Heulantsch, crossing several pasture fences and small forests. And we have fantastic views in all directions.
  • The last stretch to Heulantsch leads steeply uphill through the forest. From the summit cross at 1,473 m above sea level, we look to the right at Hochlantsch and behind it at Rote Wand. Directly below us lies Teichalm, and we can also see part of the lake.
  • For the descent, we keep to the right and walk along the pasture fence down to the pasture gate.
  • We go through the gate and across the pasture down to the “Heulantsch car park.”
  • Below the Pierer hotel, we turn right onto the gravel path and walk back towards “Teichalmsee, path no. 27” to the starting point.

Around the Teichalmsee there are several places to stop for refreshments and also the possibility of boating on the lake or a round through the high moor.
