Panoramic hike in the Nature Park Pöllauer Valley in Eastern Styria

We hike from Hotel Muhr to Pöllauberg, the flower and garden village with the high Gothic Marian pilgrimage church, and then on to Pöllau with the "Styrian St Peter's Cathedral" as a spiritual and cultural finale.

If we want to return to the starting point of our hike - the Hotel Muhr - we simply call SAM - the shared taxi in Eastern Styria - on +43 50 363738 (waiting time one hour).

Pöllauberg, Hotel Muhr

By car from Vienna

If you are driving from Vienna to Pöllau near Hartberg, take the A2 towards Graz and drive about 110 kilometers until you reach the Hartberg exit. From there, follow the B54 in the direction of Pöllau Pöllauberg.

By car from Graz

To get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Graz, take the A2 in the direction of Vienna. After about 30 kilometers, take the Gleisdorf West exit and then take the B54 towards Hartberg/Pöllau. Follow the B54 for about 25 kilometers until you reach Pöllau / Pöllauberg.

By car from Salzburg

To get to Pöllau near Hartberg from Salzburg, take the A1 towards Vienna. Drive about 110 kilometers to exit 109 (junction Salzburg). There change to the A9 towards Graz. At St. Michael, follow the S6 towards Kapfenberg. Continue on the S6 until the Krieglach exit. From there, take the B72 and then the L405 to Pöllau / Pöllauberg.

Pöllauberg, Hotel Muhr

Starting from the Hotel Muhr, we walk along the access road in a southerly direction until we come to a dirt track that leads away from the municipal road to the left into the forest. Following the markings, we reach the "Panoramablick" viewpoint.
Here we keep left again and reach the municipal road via the high-level path towards Masenberg. Now we walk downhill towards Pöllau until we reach the crossroads to the farms of the Harb, Maierhofer and Schweighofer families and turn in their direction.
Between the Maierhofer family home and stables, the marked hiking trail leads us along nature trails and paths to the Gleichweit family farm, where we continue along the municipal road until shortly before the Grabner family farm. Here we take two sharp left turns in quick succession and continue through forests and past fields and meadows to the Pöllauberg - Masenberg country road. We keep to the right and immediately come to the crossroads via which we reach the place of pilgrimage.
From the pilgrimage church in Pöllauberg via the steps at the west portal, we choose hiking trail 942 and pass the Calvary to reach Pöllau.

Hikers should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time.
Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any rubbish in the forest.
Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!
In principle, every person in the forest is allowed to collect 2kg of mushrooms and berries per day for their own use. It is only prohibited if the forest owner expressly forbids it.
