Plankogel - Round trip, Sommeralm

Open

A comfortable circular trail up to one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria - with a magnificent 360 degree panoramic view.

If you want to quickly get an overview of the largest alpine pasture area in Europe, drive up to the Sommeralm and start this leisurely hike up to the completely free-standing summit cross of the Plankogel.Starting from the Stoakoglhütte on the Sommeralm, the first part of the trail leads ever-so-slightly downhill through the forest. Soon the first viewpoints are reached. Now keep left and walk up to the windmill on the Sommeralm. Shortly before the windmill, turn left up to the Plankogel summit. At the summit cross you have probably the most beautiful 360 degree view of the surrounding alpine pastures and beyond far into the country. From the summit cross you can already see the Stoakoglhütte, to which you descend via a quite steep path.

More information

The Stoakoglhütte is located directly on the Sommeralmstraße, approach via the Brandlucken or the Teichalm.

To Google Maps for the calculation of the journey.

  • Starting from the parking lot at the Stoakoglhütte we follow the arrow "Rundweg um den Plankogel" (trail no. 8).
  • At a small hunting lodge the trail starts to climb continuously and after about 30 min. we reach the first viewpoints.
  • At a crossroads (on the right we head towards the Teichalm) we keep to the left and continue to the "Kerschbaumgatterl".
  • From the "Kerschbaumgatterl" trail no. 730/745 leads up to the windmill on the Sommeralm.
  • Shortly before the windmill we turn left (according to the marking) to the Plankogel summit, which we reach after about 20 minutes.
  • From the summit cross we descend directly to the Stoakoglhütte below (short but steep descent).

Alternative:

If you want to avoid the steep descent, walk back in the direction of Windrad and then continue comfortably above the Sommeralmstraße to the Stoakoglhütte (trail no. 745).

From the Sommeralmstraße you can quickly reach the wonderful organic farm Hochegger. The Hochegger cross vis-a-vis is a popular rest and viewpoint.

During the summer vacations there is a regular bus service from Weiz or from Bruck/Mur to the Sommeralm on weekends.

Timetables and travel information can be found at the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) or at www.busbahnbim.at.

Parking spaces in front of the Stoakoglhütte.
