From Wartberg via Krieglach to Waldschule and Hike to Teufelstein

This bike & hike tour leads through the Mürztal Valley and the Waldheimat region around Krieglach, combining leisurely cycle routes with peaceful forest landscapes. From Krieglach onwards, the route follows in the footsteps of Peter Rosegger, passing historic sites and the well-known Forest School (Waldschule) on the Alpl.

The hiking section continues through coniferous forests, across alpine meadows and past traditional alpine huts before climbing to the legendary Teufelstein, with its striking rock formation – a mystical place in the heart of the Fischbacher Alps.

Following easy cycle routes through the Mürztal Valley via Wartberg and Mitterdorf, the tour reaches Krieglach, where it traces the life and legacy of Peter Rosegger. Highlights include the Rosegger Museum, the Rosegger Park in Krieglach and the well-known Forest School (Waldschule) on the Alpl. Peter Rosegger's birthplace can also be reached by a short detour, either on foot or by bike.

The cycling section follows dedicated cycle paths and quiet side roads through the Mürztal Valley before continuing along forest roads with only gentle gradients into the peaceful uplands of the Fischbacher Alps.

From Lendkreuz, the hiking section leads through coniferous forests, across alpine meadows and grazing pastures, and past traditional alpine huts to the legendary Teufelstein. The striking weathered rock formation and the spacious plateau surrounding it create a truly unique and atmospheric place.
