Characteristics
SkillThe tour in numbers
This varied bike & hike tour combines one of the region's most popular mountain bike routes with a peaceful forest hike and scenic alpine meadows. Starting in Langenwang, the route leads via Hönigsberger Alm to Malleistenalm, followed by a hike to Hocheckalm, offering impressive views of the Veitschalpe. The varied descent via Feistritz and the relaxed final kilometres along the Mürztal Cycle Route provide the perfect finish to the tour.
Supported by the Austrian Federal Government, the Province of Styria and the European Union (LEADER).
The tour begins in Langenwang, a village in the Mürztal Valley with almost 1,000 years of history, known for the Langenwanger Au nature reserve and the ruins of Hohenwang Castle.
With every metre of elevation gained, the landscape becomes more tranquil. Forests, alpine meadows and sweeping views accompany the climb to Hönigsberger Alm and onwards to the popular Malleistenalm, with its welcoming mountain hut.
The hiking section leads mainly through peaceful forests. One of the tour's highlights is the magnificent view of the Veitschalpe, which appears almost within reach from the open alpine meadows surrounding Hocheckalm.
After returning to Malleistenalm, the route follows an enjoyable descent to Feistritz. Passing Feistritz Castle, the tour rejoins the Mürztal Cycle Route, which follows the River Mürz back to Langenwang at a relaxed pace.
Conclusion: A rewarding combination of an attractive mountain bike route, popular alpine huts and a peaceful forest hike in the Mürztaler Alps.
