Georg Janik on the work of Dieter Preisls: „His artistic works, created in serial work blocks, are characterized by the engagement with surface arrangements and ambiguous structures and – through the dimensioning and positioning of the surfaces – the formation of spatial effects. The most distinctive artistic idiom of Dieter Preisls is represented by his line structure, which regulates the compositions in fine dashed lines and sequences, as a parallel succession of hatching, only to then seemingly dissolve solid orders elsewhere in a sinuous manner. The differences in the compression and dissolution of the resulting interference patterns are as gradual as they are essential.“

Dieter Preisl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Max Weiler and Arnulf Rainer. Since 1987, he has been working as a freelance artist and musician. His knowledge of color theory and materials science has been passed on to the students of kunstschule.wien since 2002. His artistic work is dominated by abstract paintings in all formats, foldable objects, and three-dimensional image objects. Additionally, Preisl dealt with photorealistically reminiscent portraits in acrylic and created a variety of paper works and drawings.
