After breakfast, a shuttle first takes you back to Seehof, the end point of the previous stage and at the same time the starting point of today’s hike. From there, you walk briefly along the road towards Lunz, but after about 150 m turn left onto a farm track. It soon narrows into a footpath and leads along the southern shore of Lake Lunz – finally via the Dr Carl Kupelwieser Promenade – to the western end of the lake. After the restaurant Seeterrasse, keep left and stay on the left side of the Seebach stream along the lakeside promenade to the entrance of the village of Lunz. Passing the Seebach lido, you reach a passageway that leads right through a historic farmstead (Ledererhof). In front of it, a bridge on the right crosses the Seebach to the Zellerhof. This is your onward route towards Lackenhof – but first you take a short detour into the centre of Lunz to visit the House of Wilderness (Haus der Wildnis).
To do so, follow the small road through the historic courtyard and continue in a left-hand curve around a hill until a path branches off to the right towards the church. Cross the bridge and walk uphill, passing the church on your left, to the main road in the village. The House of Wilderness is diagonally right across the road.
After visiting the House of Wilderness, return the same way back to just beyond the passage through the historic Ledererhof complex. From this direction, the bridge now leads left across the Seebach to the Zellerhof, as described earlier. Continue along the road to the right and after about 450 m turn left into Kleine Seeaustraße (signposts: walking trails 19 & 20). After roughly 350 m the road forks – keep right (signposted “Bienenkunde”, trails 19 & 20). The road climbs in a right-hand curve to the last houses of Lunz and immediately afterwards – already in the forest – turns into a forestry road.
At a junction, continue straight ahead (not right towards Lake Lunz), following the waymarks to another junction. Here, turn left uphill towards “Rehberg” and at the next fork keep right, following the markings along a fairly steep and rough forestry track until you reach the wooded ridge of Steinbauernberg (take care: at an open clearing, keep sharply left along the forestry road). Now you enjoy a lovely walk through the forest along the ridge, keeping left. The path soon becomes narrower and again and again offers glimpses down to Lake Lunz directly below you. Shortly after a viewpoint (“Seeblick”), the route towards “Rehberg No. 19” turns off downhill to the right.
Before long you reach a forestry road that leads left along the hillside. After a while it turns into a narrow path and descends to the Rehberg alpine inn (Almgasthaus Rehberg). Immediately afterwards, turn left onto a tarmac road. After about 400 m it forks – follow the small tarmac road uphill to the right to the Maiß farmstead, where another wonderful view over Lake Lunz opens up. Walk through the farmyard and immediately afterwards cross the meadow (or ski slope of the small Maißzinken ski area) on a farm track into the forest.
Here the paths fork again: follow the right-hand footpath (then immediately right again) downhill through the forest towards “Durchlaß” (No. 21). After a while the path widens into a forestry road and continues descending (past a bench on the left around the corner) to the broad saddle and wide valley known as “Durchlaß”. Pass an old, solitary farmstead on the right and shortly afterwards turn left onto a farm track towards “Maierhöfen” (No. 6). After a few metres, continue straight ahead on the smaller path, which runs as a grassy track through the wide valley.
You soon reach another forestry road, which you follow gently downhill to the right along the valley towards the large Ois valley (in between, the route narrows to a trail for a few minutes). Here you join a forestry road that also serves as a cycle path. Follow it to the right and, after a wooden house, cross the Ois via a bridge to the left. You are now in the hamlet of Maierhöfen. Cross the larger tarmac road and continue straight ahead on the gravel road until, after about 150 m, you reach another tarmac road. Turn left for around 100 m, then opposite the guesthouse by the Lackenbach turn sharply right onto a small road towards “Lackenhof” (Nos. 3 & 16).
After roughly 50 m, turn left again towards “Lackenhof” (No. 3) onto a forestry road. Follow this for quite some time, running to the right above the valley floor and the road towards Lackenhof. After passing a house, you reach a junction: take the right of the two paths leading straight on – this one goes to Lackenhof. It soon becomes a pleasant path through woodland and meadows. Several paths now lead to Lackenhof: at the first fork, the Luchs Trail takes the left-hand (straight-ahead) footpath; at the second fork (already within sight of the church in Lackenhof), take the right-hand path. This brings you to the church of Lackenhof. Walk past the Kirchenwirt inn to Lindenplatz – the finishing point of this stage.
