town square Fürstenfeld
Fürstenfeld
The main square of Fürstenfeld in Styria is the historical and social center of the city – a vibrant place of great importance for history, urban landscape, and community. The square has an area of about 100 × 100 meters, making it one of the largest town squares in Styria.
Where today the famous fashion house Kastner & Öhler in Fürstenfeld stands, there used to be a barracks – including a large drill ground. Nothing today reminds of that time, as since 2021, the newly designed Marien fountain brings summer magic.
The fountain in the main square is now a highlight of the city and offers a multimedia experience for all senses during the summer months. As darkness falls, the square transforms into a stage for:
-
colorful water fountains,
-
rhythmically dancing light displays,
-
and atmospheric music compositions.
In time with the melodies, the fountains rise meters high into the sky and together with changing light colors create a fascinating atmosphere. Every show is a small work of art, which delights both young and old.
The Marien fountain is not only a place to marvel, but also a popular meeting point – perfect after a visit to the thermal baths or a stroll through the historic town center

Additional Information
In the center of the square stands the Marian column. It was erected in gratitude to Saint Mary for protecting the town of Fürstenfeld from a war disaster.
For just 17 kilometers from here lies the place Mogersdorf. On August 1, 1664, a terrible battle took place here, in which 17,000 Turkish and 2,000 soldiers of the Christian army fell.
