From Mixnitz through one of the most beautiful gorges in Austria.

The Bärenschützklamm is one of the most beautiful water-bearing rock gorges in Austria. A hike between untamed waterfalls and jagged rocks is a lasting experience: 109 bridges and 51 wooden ladders lead over a height of 350 m with a climb length of 1.4 kilometres.

The Bärenschützklamm is open from 1 May to 31 October, daily from 7:30 am to 4 pm, registration is not required!

Walking with dogs is not possible! Small children may come along, but the path can be strenuous and sometimes dangerous for children, the responsibility lies with the parents or accompanying persons!

At the entrance to the gorge (Hans Kerl hut), a trail maintenance fee must be paid; trail maintenance is carried out by the ÖAV-Sektion Mixnitz:
The fee can be paid in cash or with card.

"Bärli-Express" Shuttle to the Starting Point of the Bärenschützklamm Gorge

The Bärli-Express takes visitors to the starting point of the hiking tour during the Bärenschützklamm season.

The shuttle operates from Thursday to Sunday every 30 minutes:

08:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
01:30 p.m. – 06:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: The Bärli-Express will be out of service from 25 June to 1 July 2026. Regular service resumes on 2 July 2026.

One-way ticket: €3
Round-trip ticket: €5

Tickets can be purchased directly from the shuttle driver on site. Advance reservations are not available.

From Monday to Wednesday, special shuttle services can be arranged for groups of 15 or more people.

From the starting point at the car park of the Bärenschützklamm gorge near Mixnitz (municipality of Pernegg), we walk for about 1 1/2 hours on the long-distance hiking trail 702/745, uphill to the cascade fall and in the gorge-like valley further to the Hans Kerl hut, the "Kassierhütte".
We go up to the right, now the most beautiful part of the trail begins with the climb through the gorge. Over bridges and ladders, and finally over a hiking trail, we walk for a good hour up to the inn "Zum Guten Hirten".
If you wish, you can reach the "Steirischer Jockl" and the pilgrimage church of Schüsserlbrunn after another half hour of ascent.
From the "Guten Hirten" we return via trail 746 to the junction with trail 22.
This again leads to trail 745, which we follow until we finally arrive back at our starting point.

Those who wish can extend the hike and visit the well-known pilgrimage church Schüsserlbrunn.
