The hike leads, starting from the market Vorau, to the local mountain of Vorau, the Masenberg. There you will be offered a magnificent view over the East Styrian hill country.

The route length of about 10 km and the difference in altitude of about 600 meters are not noticeable, as you mainly concentrate on the magnificent view of the Joglland - Waldheimat region. The tour starts in Vorau, which is widely known for the Augustinian Canons' Monastery, which has existed for over 850 years. The building itself alone is impressive and always worth a visit. The guided tours offered also invite you into the history of this canonical monastery.

The underworld around Vorau Abbey is also particularly interesting: the underground passages "Sub Terra Vorau" can also be explored on guided tours.

The monastery is also a reason why numerous pilgrimage paths start in Vorau or lead there. For this reason there is also a uniform signposting, this consists of yellow-red boards with the inscription Augustinusweg and pilgrim logo. The first sign is located at Vorau Abbey.

We start behind the Vorau Abbey
From there we hike over the Brühl, along the Weitwanderweg 07, to the Amtmann Höhe
Now we come to the Erzherzog Johann Höhe
We go on to the Masenberg and have reached our destination

A few tips on correct and fair behaviour in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at )

Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active during this time.
Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any rubbish in the forest.
Camping and lighting fires are strictly forbidden in the forest!
In principle, every person is allowed to pick 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use. It is only prohibited if the forest owner expressly forbids it.

Route description
Before starting the hike, check the possibilities for refreshments, including opening times, or pack appropriate food and drink.

In the center of Vorau you can marvel at the Vorau Abbey or the open-air museum, at the end of the tour at the mighty wind turbines or the "Olmstoll".
