The Feistritztal cycle path R8 is particularly suitable for families and recreational cyclists. It only has a gradient of around 1 percent, but is around 20 km long. The beautiful location and the idyllic course, mainly along the Feistritz through wooded areas and with mostly natural shade, characterize the R8 cycle path.
After the section of the Feistritztalbahn from Birkfeld to Ratten was closed, a cycle path was built on the former railway line between 1984 and 1986. The cycle path is marked with green signs with the inscription R8 Feistritztalradweg.

We start our bike tour in the town center of Ratten or in St. Kathrein am Hauenstein. Before starting the tour, it is worth visiting the mining and brass music museums in Ratten. In St. Kathrein am Hauenstein you shouldn't miss the Peter Rosegger exhibition. We continue cycling towards Birkfeld and pass the first culinary relaxation points - the Gasthof “zur Knollmühle” or the Gasthof Mosbacher await the cyclists with delicious refreshments. Rested and strengthened, we continue our journey and soon reach the next wonderful point on the route: the Joglland Seehütte Töglhofer. The hut attracts cyclists and hikers, especially on hot days, with its shady spots. Now it's not far until we reach our destination, Birkfeld. We drive along the R8 Feistritztal cycle path and reach the market town. Cafés and restaurants, the Edlseer-Hoamat Chapel and the “Sound Tunnel” exhibition await us there. The Feistritztalbahn, a steam train, also runs from here to Weiz.
