The Styrian Flower Route is located in the green heart of Austria—Styria—more specifically in Eastern Styria. There, 10 municipalities—all of which have already received awards in the Styrian state floral decoration competition “Flora”—have joined forces to create what is arguably the most flower-filled scenic route.
As early as 1990, the flower towns of Pöllauberg, Vorau, Wenigzell, St. Kathrein am Offenegg, St. Jakob im Walde, Strallegg, Miesenbach, and Mönichwald founded the “Steirische Blumenstraße” association. Three years later, St. Lorenzen am Wechsel joined the association. Since 2009, the Flower Route has comprised ten municipalities, following the inclusion of the high-altitude health resort of Fischbach. In 2020, the Styrian Flower Route expanded once again: with the addition of Hartberg, a city has since become part of this blooming themed route.
Nearly all member towns are award winners in the Styrian Flower Decoration Competition, where the coveted “Floras” are awarded annually.
The European counterpart to the Styrian Flower Decoration Contest is “Entente Florale.” Several Flower Route towns have already successfully participated in it. Pöllauberg, St. Jakob im Walde, Wenigzell, Mönichwald, and St. Kathrein am Offenegg are proud to bear the title “Europe’s Most Beautiful Flower Village.”
But it’s not just the floral displays, gardens, and scenery that make a trip along what is arguably Styria’s most blooming scenic route a special experience. The warmth of the hosts, interesting places to visit, and culinary delights also make the journey through the colorful and blooming landscape along the Flower Route varied and enjoyable.

It must be the "Blumenstraßen"- Dirndl so fine.
Blumenstraßen-Dirndl
The Blumenstraße dirndl was unveiled in 2013 at the flower parade in Strallegg and has been a hit ever since with its green and pink colors and matching floral pattern. The royal representatives of the Styrian Blumenstraße also wear it at official events.
At the 2023 Flower Parade in Pöllauberg, a new version of the dirndl was unveiled, along with a men’s gillett for the first time. Using new fabrics and similar colors, Grete Posch once again created a special Blumenstraße traditional costume.
The dirndl and gillett were designed by Grete Posch from the Blumenstraße village of Wenigzell, where the traditional costume is also available for purchase.

I completed a three-year technical college course in agriculture and food science in Vorau and am now doing an apprenticeship as an administrative assistant in the justice system. My hobbies include hiking, reading, baking, dancing and travelling. I would describe myself as a passionate, humorous and adventurous person who enjoys spending time in nature and has a passion for plants and flowers.

After completing Year 9, I attended technical college in Naas and then completed an apprenticeship as a hairdresser/stylist. In my free time, I am involved as a rural youth leader, am a member of the music association and enjoy cooking and creative flower arranging. I would describe myself as an open, fun-loving, creative and honest person who is always curious about new things and enjoys new experiences.
Gardens along the Styrian Flower Road
Aside from the magnificence of flowers, each of the 10 floral villages features numerous other attractions and destinations, such as the Pöllauberger pilgrimage church, Vorau Abbey or the Kräftereich St. Jakob im Walde. A truly floral event took place on 7 September in the East Styria adventure region: the traditional flower parade of the Styrian Flower Road stopped in Vorau.
Thousands of guests admired the flower floats, which had been decorated with great love and skill – at the end of the parade, the Vorau Farmers' Association was delighted to receive the award for the ‘most beautiful flower float’ with their cow ‘Lilly’.
