The Stift Vorau presents itself as a unified Baroque Abbey that strives to connect the more than 800-year tradition of monastic life with the demands of the present in church and world. The Vorau Abbey Church ranks among the most splendid Baroque churches in Styria due to its lavish abundance of frescoes, the opulent gilding of all wooden sculptures, and especially the sumptuous furnishings of the high altar . This powerful hall with chapels on both sides was completely rebuilt by Provost Matthias Singer after the demolition of the old Gothic basilica, according to plans by Domenico Sciassia, preserving the towers from 1660-1662 . The impressive high altar, built in 1704 after a brilliant design by Matthias Steindl, is the artistic highlight of the church. The much-admired pulpit, completed in 1706, also comes from him.
