A varied circular route that takes you to the Styrian Apple Road right through the ApfelLand in eastern Styria. Whether you go at blossom or harvest time, it will always be an experience.

The circular trail starts in the center of Puch bei Weiz and takes you to the Ilzberg Chapel on Ilzberg hill. In the midst of this enchanting landscape, affectionately known as Austria's orchard, the trail leads leisurely towards Singerberg and then on to Harl. You will pass right by the fruit tree museum “Haus des Apfels” (permanently closed!). Then continue on to Glatzenberg and Hohenilz. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the Ilzberg Chapel. Through a well-marked forest, you will come to the Perndorf Chapel. Then continue right through apple orchards until you reach the intersection at the Fink wine and fruit farm. Here, turn right and then left at the next intersection to hike slightly downhill along narrow paved paths and meadow trails. When you reach the road, turn left one last time and then follow the road back to the starting point.

ApfelLand is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, about 60 km northeast of Graz and about 140 km south of Vienna.

Coming from Vienna:

Via the Südautobahn (A2) to the Hartberg exit - via Bundesstraße (B54) in the direction of Graz - 2 km after Kaindorf in the direction of Graz, turn off in the direction of ApfelLand-Stubenbergsee- Stubenbergsee- Lebing- Unterfeistritz- Puch bei Weiz.

Coming from Salzburg/Germany:

Freeway via Salzburg - Pyhrnautobahn (A9) to Graz - continue via Südautobahn in the direction of Vienna (A2) to the Gleisdorf West exit - Bundesstraße (B54) to Kaibing - ApfelLand-Stubenbergsee- Stubenbergsee- Lebing- Unterfeistritz- Puch bei Weiz.

At the adventure pool Puch bei Weiz

This loop trail begins in the center of Puch bei Weiz; there are several yellow trail markers at the bus stop. We head west, walk past the houses, and soon find ourselves walking through an apple orchard. Once we reach the road, we turn right and walk slightly uphill. Pass the Leitner fruit farm (known as Niglbauer) until you reach the next intersection. Turn left, and after a short while you’ll reach the “Haus des Apfels.” Follow the sidewalk slightly uphill, where you’ll turn left and walk down the road. At the end of the road, the trail leads you to the right for a bit and then across the stream before heading slightly uphill again at the edge of the meadow.

At the road, keep to the right, then after about 300 m, turn left onto a gravel road. From there, the path continues steadily downhill. We cross State Road 392 in Hohenilz, continue downhill past apple orchards and through the woods, then head uphill again along the forest road. We come back to the L392—the main thoroughfare through Hohenilz—keep to the right, and hike about 300 m along the road. At the intersection, we turn right, pass a few houses, and hike uphill through the forest to Ilzberg.

It’s worth taking a short break at the chapel on the Ilzberg before we continue our hike to the right along the edge of the forest. Once we reach the road, we turn left, reach the town center and the chapel in Perndorf, where we turn left again.
After about 300 m, we keep to the right and hike along a gravel road, passing through apple orchards, until we reach the intersection at the Fink Winery and Orchard. Here, we turn right and then branch off to the left at the next intersection to hike gently downhill along narrow paved paths and meadow trails. Once we reach the road, we turn left one last time and then follow the road back to the starting point.

Hikers should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time.Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any rubbish in the forest.Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!In principle, every person in the forest is allowed to collect 2kg of mushrooms and berries per day for their own use.
