The Pöllau Valley Nature Park is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, the garden of Austria, approx. 60 km north-east of Graz and approx. 150 km south of Vienna
By car from ViennaIf you are driving from Vienna to Pöllau bei Hartberg, take the A2 towards Graz and drive about 110 kilometres until you reach the Hartberg exit. From there, follow the B54 in the direction of Pöllau.
By car from GrazTo get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Graz, take the A2 motorway in the direction of Vienna. After about 30 kilometres, take the Gleisdorf West exit and then take the B54 towards Hartberg/Pöllau. Follow the B54 for about 25 kilometres until you reach Pöllau.
By car from SalzburgTo get to Pöllau bei Hartberg from Salzburg, take the A1 motorway towards Vienna. Drive about 110 kilometres to exit 109 (Salzburg junction). There change to the A9 motorway in the direction of Graz. At St. Michael, follow the S6 towards Kapfenberg. Continue on the S6 until the Krieglach exit. From there, take the B72 and then the L405 to Pöllau.
Pöllauberg, Hotel RETTER
- We start our tour from the RETTER Bio-Natur-Resort uphill towards Pöllauberg.
- After a winding ride up the mountain, we reach the plateau and enjoy the magnificent view of the Pöllau Valley. Continue left to the main square of Pöllauberg and the Maria Pöllauberg pilgrimage church. After a short visit to the parish church, we head back out of the town center to the plateau.
- Now we turn left down the mountain. We pass old deer pear trees and shady forests.
- After the turn-off to Kalvarienberg, we take the next exit on the left past Gasthof Kerschhofer back to the hotel.
- After a small ascent we reach the hotel.

- Plan your tour carefully!
- Check your bike before you set off!
- Always ride with the right protective equipment!
- Always ride with a helmet!
- Don't forget all your equipment (repair kit, first aid kit, etc.)!
- Only ride on marked paths!
- Observe the road traffic regulations!
- Observe driving bans and keep to opening times!
- Control your speed!
- Leave no tracks!
- Respect other nature users!
- Show consideration for animals (only ride in daylight & close pasture fences)!
- Avoid noise and garbage!
- Use the cycle paths at your own risk!
- Beware of working machines, wood or potholes on the road, grazing livestock and vehicle traffic (forest roads are working areas and workplaces)!
A few tips on correct and fair behavior:Cycling and mountain biking in the forest (oesterreich.gv.at)
- Cyclists should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time.
- Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any garbage in the forest.
- Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!
