A hike through the homeland of the Styrian poet Peter Rosegger around the Alpl and St. Kathrein am Hauenstein.

This tour leads through the homeland of the Styrian poet Peter Rosegger. The tour starts at the Roseggerhof, which is located just outside the village of St. Kathrein am Hauenstein. Pass the road behind the Roseggerhof and head towards the "Rotes Kreuz". Once there, the route continues over the Jägerhöhe to Gasthof Schlagobersbauer for refreshments. From here it is not far back to the starting point - the Roseggerhof.

The municipality lies in the valley of the Hirschbach, a tributary of the Feistritz, in the Fischbach Alps and is part of Peter Rosegger's Waldheimat. It covers an area of 19.25 square kilometers. Of this, 40 percent is agricultural land and 55 percent is forested.

From Vienna: via the A2 Südautobahn and the S6 Semmering expressway to the Krieglach exit. From Graz: via Weiz and Birkfeld to St. Kathrein am Hauenstein.

St. Kathrein am Hauenstein, Roseggerhof (free)

We start at the Roseggerhof, pass it on the right-hand side and follow the road (path 13)
After a short time we turn left uphill (path 22) towards Rotes Kreuz
Once at the Red Cross, we follow trail 740 / Alpannonia markings / glacier and wine until we reach the Jägerhöhe
Finally, we hike back to the Roseggerhof via the Schlagobersbauer farm

Hikers should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time.
Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any garbage in the forest.
Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!
In principle, every person in the forest is allowed to collect 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for their own use. It is only prohibited if the forest owner expressly forbids it.
