This mountain bike tour in St. Barbara im Mürztal / Mitterdorf takes us in the footsteps of pilgrims, as the ‘Zeller Weg’ runs in the immediate vicinity. The destination of the tour - the Stanglalm - is popular with both mountain bikers and hikers. Stop off a few 100 metres before the Stanglalm at the Wartberger or Wittmaier Hütte - open on public holidays and from Fri-Sun.

We start our mountain bike tour in the centre of St. Barbara im Mürztal-Mitterdorf. Turn left at the church and ride to the Spitzwirt inn. Here we cross the B 306 and follow the Obere Berggasse. After crossing the S6 motorway, the route markings begin, leading us directly to the Stanglalm.

S6 Semmering motorway - exit Mitterdorf, at roundabout 3 exit direction Mitterdorf
Free parking at Mitterdorf train station and in the town centre

We start our tour in the centre of St. Barbara im Mürztal - Mitterdorf. We turn left at the church and cycle approx. 300 metres to the Spitzwirt inn. Here we cross the main road and cycle into Obere Berggasse. The steepest ascent of the route is after approx. 250 metres on asphalt until we cross the S6. A goods road now leads us through the forest. After a short downhill section, we continue on a forest path to the Stanglalpe with a steady, gentle ascent.

Please keep to the ‘nature opening times’: March and October 9am-5pm, April and September 8am-6pm, May to August - 7pm
Please do not leave any rubbish behind!
Hikers and pedestrians have priority!
Please ride responsibly and at half speed!
Please only ride a technically sound bike!

Stop off at the Leopold Wittmaier Hütte (only open at weekends and on public holidays).

Note the numerous (pilgrim) crosses along the way, the route is partly identical to the pilgrimage route to Mariazell.

Take the train to Mitterdorf station.
