Scenic hiking tour to the Hintere Zeller Staritzen and the Zinken (1.619 m) with a great view at the summit cross.

The hike from the Kastenriegel to the Hintere Staritze and the Zinken is a scenic tour with a stop at the Halterhütte on the Hintere Staritze.

From Kastenriegel the hiking trail leads us through the Elendgraben up to the Halterhütte on the Hintere Staritze. Then continue to the Zinken with a great view (1,619 m) and back keeping left over the Ochsenbühel down to the Weiderost. Here we branch off to the right onto a forest trail "Stiege" and finally return to the path through the Elendgraben to our starting point at Kastenriegel.

By car coming from Mariazell: B20 in the direction of Bruck an der Mur - approx. 200 meters after the village of Wegscheid you will find the turnoff to the "Ramertal".

Coming from Bruck an der Mur in the direction of Mariazell - about 2 kilometers after the village Gollrad on the left side.

Parking place at Kastenriegel

We start our hike at the Kastenriegel (in Oberwegscheid turn off into the Ramertal and follow the forest road to Kastenriegel), where we can also park our car. At the Kastenriegel you have a wonderful view into the valley of the Hintere Höll. Now we follow the signpost "Zeller Staritzen" - trail 19" along an ascending forest path until we reach a forest road after a short while. There we now continue to the left and finally reach a forest path again, which leads us to the alpine pasture landscape on the Hintere Staritze, which is inhabited by numerous cows in summer. Here we can now take a rest at the Sennhütte.

Freshly strengthened, we now make our way to the summit cross on the Zinken (1,619 m). The view from the summit cross is indescribably beautiful - Hochschwab massif, Dürrenstein, Ötscher, Veitsch and much more...

The way back leads us across the plateau to the east, keeping left over the Ochsenbühel down to the Weiderost. Shortly before the Kuhalm we now branch off to the right onto a forest trail, called "Stiege", and finally return to the trail through the Elendgraben to our starting point at the Kastenriegel. This time, just before the end, we no longer took the forest path, but went out on the forest road to the Kastenriegel.

Emergency reporting tip - provide answers to the six W questions: What happened? How many injured? Where did the accident happen (possibly GPS coordinates)? Who is reporting (callback number)? When did the accident happen? Weather at the accident site?

Proper backpacking makes many things easier: pack heavy things first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All things that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, belong on top. An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!

Stop at the hut on the Hintere Staritze - open from about mid-June to mid-September.

A public journey is only possible to Wegscheid/stop Oberwegscheid. Additional walking time to Kastenriegel to the starting point: about 1.5 hours (one way).
