Walk to the Sieberwarte near Neuberg an der Mürz in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park

From the Stiftshof, head south across the main road to the entrance of the Veitschbach (signposted).
Just after the Mürz bridge (fitness trail), keep left and cross a small wooden bridge (signposted – caution: slippery when wet!). From there, follow the trail with a wooden railing uphill behind the ice hut.

The well-marked and clearly visible trail leads in several switchbacks directly to the observation tower.

Descent follows the same route.

This trail can be walked without any difficulty.

In general: Most hikes and mountain tours in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park take place in alpine terrain. Especially for longer hikes and mountain tours, good physical fitness, surefootedness, and a head for heights are highly recommended. On the high plateaus of Rax, Schneealm, and Veitsch, orientation can be difficult in fog or bad weather. Always be aware of avalanche danger in winter!

No special mountain equipment is required for this trail.

In general: Properly packing your backpack makes everything easier:

Pack heavy items first. Your water bottle (ideally 1 liter or more) should always be easy to access. Items you use frequently – such as sunglasses, camera, phone, or hiking map – belong on top.

A basic emergency kit, including blister plasters, belongs in every backpack. It’s always a good idea to dress in layers ("onion principle"), and rain protection is essential on alpine tours. Don’t forget your helmet where necessary!

In winter, appropriate safety equipment is mandatory for ski and snowshoe tours:

Avalanche transceivers, shovels, and probes can be rented from the Nature Park Office for a small fee.

A visit to the abbey, the Kaiserhof glass manufactory, the nature museum, and the village shop (Greißlerei) next to the abbey is highly recommended.
