Beautiful mountain tour from Niederalpl to the summit of Hohe Veitsch

The well-marked trail (405) starts directly at the pass summit at Niederalpl.

According to the signposts, you need 3 1/2 hours for the almost 7 km long ascent to the summit of the Hohe Veitsch. However, fast hikers can easily complete the tour in less than 3 hours.

There and back you need about 5 hours (depending on speed).

Coming from Mariazell through Gußwerk towards Seeberg,but in Wegscheid turn right, drive through Aschbach and then along some hairpin bends to Niederalpl Passhöhe.

We start our tour at the top of the pass at Niederalpl (1,221 m). First we follow a forest path to the Sohlenalm. Once at the Sohlenalm, we cross a forest road, then turn left into the forest, then a short stretch across an alpine pasture and continue again along a forest road that leads to the Wildkammsteig trail between Wildkamm and Hohe Veitsch. Along the trail you always have a view of the distant summit cross. After the long traverse along the trail, we now reach the Gingatzwiese via a steeper ascent. Once there, we follow the path to the right (on the left we could branch off to the Großer Wildkamm) up to the Veitsch plateau, where we then head south to the already visible summit cross of the Hohe Veitsch (1,981 m).

At the large summit cross you have a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and also down to the Graf-Meran-Schutzhaus (walking time approx. 20 minutes).

We return the same way.

Emergency reporting tip - provide answers to the six W-questions: What happened? How many injured? Where did the accident happen (possibly GPS coordinates)? Who is reporting (callback number)? When did the accident happen? Weather at the accident site?

Good hiking boots are necessary for the tour to the Hohe Veitsch, hiking poles are also an advantage!

Proper backpacking makes many things easier: pack heavy things first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All things that are often needed like sunglasses, camera or hiking map belong on top. An emergency kit including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
