The route up the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe is about 4.3 km long and has an altitude difference of about 400 meters. It is suitable for amateurs as well as for professionals.

The Uphill Trail is the perfect alternative if we do not want to take the cable car, but sporty to the Bürgeralpe.

The ride time is between 25 and 50 minutes, depending on your condition.

Parking at the lift parking lot in St. Sebastian

The starting point is St. Sebastian, 800 meters above sea level (valley station of the Nordwest 4-seater chairlift - only in operation in winter, in summer 8-seater cable car in Mariazell).

From there we first drive about 1 km on asphalt to the Habertheuer, from where a forest road leads over the Föhrenberg - past the Holzknechthütte to Pfanni's Edelweißhütte (1266 meters). The journey takes between 25 and 50 minutes, depending on your physical condition.

The 1266 meter high local mountain of Mariazell is a forested lookout mountain of the Styrian-Lower Austrian Limestone Alps and offers a magnificent view of the Mariazell region and the Alpine foothills.

The Bürgeralpe has a densely forested hilltop, and on the summit is the "Erzherzog-Johann-Warte", built in 1908 and named after the Styrian sovereign. Next to it you can find the summit cross and the Edelweiss hut.There is an ascent possibility with the cable car from the center of Mariazell.

A few tips for safe mountain biking:

Check your bike's air pressure, spoke tension and brake pads after every tour.
The helmet is part of every mountain bike tour.
Consider in advance what equipment you need: warm clothing, rain and wind protection, repair kit and first aid kit belong in your backpack, as well as a charged cell phone.

Stop at the Edelweißhütte or at the Berggasthof Bürgeralpe.
