Imperial hike to the Hinteralm in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park

From the parking lot, we first follow the wide forest road, gradually ascending in several turns, but never too steep, until we reach the "Eisernes Törl" (imperial hunting lodge).

From here, we turn left and follow a nearly level path along a high moor, leading to a large meadow. Now, follow the forest road right and ascend a bit steeper, eventually passing through a rock arch onto the alpine meadow of Hinteralm. In just a few minutes, we reach the Halterhütte, which is managed in the summer.

Return along the same route.

Most hiking and mountain tours in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park are in alpine terrain. For longer hikes and mountain tours, it is recommended to have good physical condition, surefootedness, and fearlessness of heights. On the high plateaus of Rax, Schneealm, and Veitsch, orientation can be difficult in fog or bad weather. Always be aware of avalanche risks in winter!

Properly packing your backpack makes everything easier:

• Pack heavy items first.
• The water bottle (ideally 1 liter or more) should always be easily accessible.
• Items that are used frequently, such as sunglasses, camera, mobile phone, or hiking map, should be placed on top.

An emergency kit, including blister plasters, should be in every backpack, and it’s always advisable to dress using the "layering system". For alpine tours, never forget rain protection!

In winter, for ski tours and snowshoe hikes, appropriate safety equipment (avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe) is mandatory! Always check the avalanche report before the tour at www.lawine-steiermark.at.

Avalanche beacons, shovels, and probes can be rented at the nature park office for a small fee.
