Kristallsee view

The Kristallsee was built in 2011 as an extension to the snowmaking system. The pond has a volume of 40,000 m³ of water. Together with the neighbouring forest lake, the Bürgeralpe therefore has a total of 60,000 m3 of water storage available.

Erlaufsee view

Lake Erlaufsee is located 3 km north-west of Mariazell at 827 metres above sea level on the border between Styria and Lower Austria. This clear mountain lake with drinking water quality offers many leisure activities for a special excursion.

Hubertussee view

Created by the Krupp family, the lake is a popular excursion destination and a fishing lake rich in fish. Lake Hubertussee is located around 15 kilometres north-east of Mariazell on the border between Lower Austria and Styria in the ‘Walstern’ region.

You can easily take the cable car up to the Bürgeralpe - the exact operating times can be found at: www.buergeralpe.at

You can also climb the Bürgeralpe on foot: the walking time from the centre of Mariazell is approx. 1-1.5 hours

Unfortunately it is not possible to drive up by car!

Along the way you have an impressive view of the mountain panorama and the 3 lakes: Kristallsee, Erlaufsee and Hubertussee.

From the mountain station we walk past the lookout point to the Kristallsee view - then on to the Erlaufsee view and finally to the Hubertussee view until we return to our starting point.

For the ascent or descent to the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe we can use the new 8-seater gondola lift ‘Bürgeralpe Express’ - information at www.burgeralpe.at

Tip for reporting an emergency - answer the six W questions: What has happened? How many injured? Where did the accident happen (possibly GPS coordinates)? Who is reporting (callback number)? When did the accident happen? Weather at the scene of the accident?

Packing your rucksack properly makes things much easier: pack heavy items first. The water bottle should always be within easy reach in a side pocket. All items that are often needed, such as sunglasses, camera or hiking map, should be on top.

Emergency equipment belongs in every rucksack!

Clothing according to the ‘onion system’ is always recommended!

Don't forget a blister plaster just in case!

At the beginning or end of the tour, a detour to the cosy Edelweißhütte is a must!
