A relatively short but occasionally steep hike from Krampen (large parking area, bus stop) leads directly to the picturesquely situated Falkensteinalm in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park.

The breathtaking Schneealm panorama and a seat on the sun terrace provide a well-deserved reward for the challenging ascent.

From Krampen, follow the cycling and walking path into the valley for about 10 minutes until you reach the marked turnoff for the ascent to Falkensteinalm.

From there, the route continues via a partly steep forest trail, leading through alpine meadows before reaching the seasonally managed alpine hut.

Large, free parking lot in Krampen.

From Krampen, follow the cycling and walking path, then take the marked turnoff (with a few concrete steps at the beginning) and ascend via the trail directly to Falkensteinalm.

For the return journey, you can take the same route back or, though less recommended, descend via the quick descent of the via ferrata.

This is a regular hike, but sturdy footwear is required. The path can become slippery in wet conditions.

General Notes on Hiking and Mountain Tours

Most hikes and mountain tours in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park take place in alpine terrain. For longer hikes and mountain tours, a good level of fitness, surefootedness, and a head for heights are recommended.

On the high plateaus of Rax, Schneealm, and Veitsch, fog or bad weather can make navigation difficult.

In winter, always be aware of avalanche risk!

Frequently used items (sunglasses, camera, phone, map) should go on top.
A basic emergency kit, including blister plasters, should always be in your backpack.

This trail is also ideal as a leisurely descent after a via ferrata tour on the Falkensteinwand.
