This scenically unique multi-day tour begins in Styria, in the Mürzer Oberland Alpine Nature Park, crosses the Fischbach Alps and ends at the gates of the Hungarian lowlands, in the picturesque little town of Köszeg / Güns. Certainly one of the most varied hikes in the Eastern Alps.

From Neuberg an der Mürz, the tour starts at the well-known Münster and first leads us over the Schneealm and Rax (2,007m, highest point of the entire tour, alpine trail sections, surefootedness required) into the Mürztal. We continue via the 1,783m high Stuhleck and the Hochwechsel to Lower Austria and Burgenland. From here, the route leads us through the gently undulating landscape towards Geschriebenstein Nature Park (border between Austria and Hungary) and finally downhill to the picturesque little town of Köszeg (western Hungary).

There are numerous inns, mountain huts and hotels along the entire route, but please make sure to book in advance for overnight stays.

Neuberg an der Mürz - Schneealm (steep sections) - Nasskamm - Zahmes Gamseck (surefootedness required) - Rax (Styrian part) - Heukuppe (2,007m) - Preiner Gscheid - Kampalpe - Spital am Semmering - Stuhleck - Hochwechsel - Mönichkirchen - Hochneukirchen - Bernstein - Unterkohlstätten - Geschriebenstein - Köszeg.

Alternatively, you can also start from Fischbach via Pretul to Stuhleck (https://www.alpannonia.at/a-alpannonia-etappe-1b-pretul-feistritzsattel ).

The first part of the trail leads through alpine terrain, where surefootedness is required in places (Schneealpe, Rax). However, the majority of the tour is technically easy and problem-free. Please be aware of local traffic on the short road sections!

Normal hiking equipment, sturdy shoes, hut sleeping bag and a change of clothes.

By the way, packing your rucksack properly makes things much easier:

Pack heavy items first. The water bottle (ideal: 1 litre or more) should always be within easy reach. All items that are needed frequently, such as sunglasses, camera, mobile phone or hiking map, should be on top.

Emergency equipment including blister plasters should be in every rucksack and it is always advisable to dress according to the ‘onion system’! Never forget rain protection on alpine tours!
