Starting in Kapfenberg, this bike & hike tour leads via Thörl and the Aflenz Basin to Schießlingalm. Passing well-kept cultural landscapes, idyllic alpine meadows and scattered mountain huts, the route combines enjoyable—and at times more demanding—cycling with a hike to Schießling, accompanied by impressive views across the inner-Alpine basin and the majestic Hochschwab massif.

Supported by the Austrian Federal Government, the Province of Styria and the European Union (LEADER).

Starting in Kapfenberg, this bike & hike tour follows the Seeberg Cycle Route (R13) to Thörl, passing through the historic narrow valley overlooked by the striking Schachenstein Castle. Beyond Thörl, the gently rolling Aflenz Basin unfolds, stretching from Thörl in the southwest to Turnau in the northeast—a landscape of distinctive character with Aflenz as its main village.

While the route to Draiach follows quiet roads through well-kept rural landscapes, the climb to Schießlingalm requires a little more effort. At the top, an idyllic alpine pasture with numerous scattered mountain huts awaits, creating a setting that seems almost straight out of a classic alpine film.

The hike to Schießling crosses open alpine meadows and leads to panoramic viewpoints overlooking Hochanger and the majestic Hochschwab massif.

Conclusion: From the gentle landscapes of the Aflenz Basin to the peaceful alpine world of Schießlingalm—a tour distinguished by its remarkable scenery.
