A detour to the Weitental nature conservation centre is always worthwhile. The tour offers great views and the shelter on the Hochanger is staffed.

The wonderful mountain world around Bruck an der Mur is an Eldorado for hikers and mountain bikers alike.

Starting from the railway path (Bruck Süd), the Brucker Hochanger can be climbed/cycled. From the Hochanger you can enjoy a view as far as the Hochschwab and the Graz mountains.

Use of the marked cycle routes is permitted at your own risk from 1 March to 14 November from 1 hour after sunrise to 1 hour before sunset.

You can also take the turn-off to Tour 1 on the Schweizeben and then continue on Tour 8 or Tour 7 to the Hochanger. There are various options for the descent.

From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn motorway and the S6 Semmering motorway to the Bruck an der Mur motorway exit. Here at the roundabout take the 3rd exit in the direction of Leoben. After 100 metres, turn left at the 1st set of traffic lights (signpost ‘Weitental’).

Now keep right through a railway and motorway subway and past the cemetery to the P at the beginning of the Weitental. N 47.40398° O 15.27535°

From Graz via the A9 - Phyrnautobahn and the S35 - Brucker Schnellstraße to the Bruck an der Mur motorway exit. Continue as above.

From the west (Linz, Salzburg, D) via the A9 - Phyrn motorway and the S6 - Semmering motorway to Bruck West. Keep left at the motorway exit until you reach a junction at a furniture store. Keep right through the Bruck district of Oberaich until just before the roundabout mentioned above. Turn right at the traffic lights (signpost ‘Weitental’) and continue as above.

A few tips for safe mountain biking:

Check your bike after every tour: air pressure, spoke tension and brake pads.
A helmet is an essential part of every mountain bike tour.
Think in advance about what equipment you need to take with you: warm clothing, rain and wind protection, a repair kit and first aid kit belong in your rucksack, as well as a charged mobile phone.

From the Hochanger, you can enjoy views as far as the Hochschwab and the Graz mountains.
