WinterSportMuseum

Mürzzuschlag

The WinterSportMuseum Mürzzuschlag has one of the largest and most important collections in the winter sports history. A separate children's adventure path complements the offer. Families can visit the individual stations of the KinderElebnisWeg together with the snow bunny Toni and, supported by the instruction booklet, solve many tricky puzzles or try out skill competitions.

Current information

The WinterSportMuseum is closed due to the renovation of the new special exhibitions on the topic of climate change and water until October 23. It will reopen on October 24.

The Alpine Appeal: Why the Mountains Must Not Become a Fun Park

How Profit Greed and Mass Tourism Are Destroying the Alps
The renowned Alpine expert, filmmaker, and journalist Georg Bayerle has been observing this development for several decades, both personally and professionally. In his polemic "Alpine Appeal," Bayerle ruthlessly analyzes the condition of an increasingly fragile ecosystem, questions the Alpine economy based solely on exploitation - and he shows ways for the future on how we can still save the magnificent mountains in the midst of the continent from ourselves.
Georg Bayerle has already written several books, and due to his expertise, this evening will be an exciting "journey" into the Alps, which are particularly suffering under climate change.

Georg Bayerle has been working at Bayerischer Rundfunk since 1999 as an expert on mountain and environmental issues. He has produced a hundred documentary films and numerous radio contributions throughout his career. For BR-Reisen, he regularly designs and conducts cultural trips, primarily in Europe. Bayerle has already received several awards in Germany.

Competence Center for Ski and Winter Sports

With knowledge of the skiing historical significance of the region, a Winter Sports Museum was founded in 1947 in Mürzzuschlag.
Having grown continuously over many years, the collection is now presented as one of the world's most significant in its field. In connection with a rich archive and a comprehensive library, extensive specialized knowledge has been built up, and the Winter Sports Museum has developed into a competence center for ski and winter sports in Austria and Europe.

Through a variety of educational programs, a visit to the museum becomes an experience. Additionally, the Skirockcafe and the popular ski hut are inviting for a break. Numerous events organized by the dedicated museum team also enhance the appeal. The museum premises can be rented by companies, clubs, and individuals for seminars, lectures, celebrations, photoshoots, etc.

The museum team has years of experience in lending objects for the support of various projects and also offers ready-made traveling exhibitions or tailored special exhibitions.
