Since the opening of the first OMV filling station in Vienna in 1990, the network has been expanded to around 2,100 filling stations in ten countries.
For OMV, Austria is the center for global research and development activities. Many scientific theories and studies are developed here, such as new concepts for deposit models or pressure maintenance measures. OMV was able to gain important knowledge for ecologically sustainable exploration and production in Austria and is known for its technical innovations.
After these technologies have been successfully used in Austria, they will be used worldwide in the OMV Upstream "family". When developing the Vienna Basin, OMV was able to acquire special technological knowledge in extracting above-average production volumes from mature fields.
As one of the largest employers in the Lower Austrian Weinviertel region, OMV is a reliable partner for both employees and business partners. After completing an extensive training program offered by OMV, many employees can apply the specialist knowledge they have acquired abroad.
In 2019 around 638 oil and 93 gas probes extracted over 24,300 boe per day over an area of more than 3,800 km². OMV AUT thus covers around 10 percent of domestic oil and gas requirements. In addition, the company operates two underground gas storage facilities, the capacity of which corresponds to around a quarter of Austria’s annual consumption.
Austria is the global innovation and technology center of the entire company and thus the basis of global success. The Innovation & Technology Center (ITC), which represents OMV on a national and international level, will open this year. With the ITC we present our top achievements in technology. The most modern, multimedia presentation technology enables us to make what is happening below the surface of the earth visible to visitors.
