In order to reconcile God and to avert plague, fire and flooding from the city, the citizens had the Marian Column built on the main square in Bruck in 1710.
It also served as a starting point for pilgrimages. In the middle stands the baroque statue of Maria Immaculata by Josef Wolff on a smooth shaft and the city coat of arms is on the base.
The statues of the six saints Florian, Sebastian, Joseph, Johann Nepomuk, Rochus and Antonius, on the right and left of the column, come from the Bruck sculptor Ignaz Marxer.
After the city fire of 1792, a fountain was erected instead of the Marian column. The column was moved to the southern part of the square. It was renovated in 1796 and restored in 1961. The plague column has been in its current location since 2006.
