The cell phone is an important tool to alert the mountain rescue in case of emergency. In Austria, you can call the Alpine emergency number 140, or the European emergency number 112.

If the cell phone has no reception, you can turn it off and turn it up again and then enter the number 112 instead of the PIN.

The more precise the information given, the faster the rescue teams will reach the injured person. If there is no network reception at all, the injured person must be secured before searching for a location from which to make the emergency call:

• Provide first aid -Stop bleeding.
• Stable lateral position for unconscious persons
• Get out of the danger zone (avalanches, falling rocks, danger of slipping).
