Orpheus, the original musician who transformed even the hellhound Cerberus into a lapdog with his tunes, is the focus. Orfeo has already inspired the divine Claudio Monteverdi to an epochal opera, and his power still resonates in the music of Stefano Landi, Barbara Strozzi, Tarquinio Merula, Antonio Vivaldi, Francesco Geminiani, and in countless canzoni of traditional Italian folk music.
With Anna Piroli comes the great lady of this genre – the fusion of folk tunes with art music – to us in Mürzzuschlag. Brilliant brass fanfares, lively folias, Italian songs at the border between popular and art music, as well as Italian drinks and antipasti complete the celebration.
