Ticket presale: Ö-Ticket
The Kaiser Requiem by the Viennese court composer Johann Joseph Fux (1660-1741), composed on the occasion of the mourning ceremonies for the dowager empress Eleonora in the year 1720, is a significant work in music history. It was performed not only for members of the imperial family but also at the requiem mass for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Fux impresses with his differentiated musical illumination of the text. Not only the trombone, which can be heard in the sequence before the "Tuba mirum," but countless other details, such as the "trembling" of the violins during "Quantus tremor est futurus" or the pleading sighing motif in the "Recordare," testify to Fux's musical-rhetorical ingenuity. Famous later settings of the requiem, such as that of Mozart, often draw upon ideas from the Old Masters.
In order to authentically convey the many facets of the work, it is performed on historical instruments. This includes not only old string instruments with gut strings but also Baroque trombones, bassoons, organ, and the very rarely played shawms, which are also referred to as "cornetts."
The vocal part is carried by 5 renowned soloists and the Bruck city parish choir.
