Ausstellung Veronika Hauer & Martina Steckholzer "Loose Ends Dance"

Saturday, 27 June 2026 - Sunday, 20 September 2026 Show all dates

In their picturesque and graphic works, the artists engage with the transience of movement and the traces of the body in the world. In the galerie kunsthaus muerz, they present an installation developed for both spaces, where Hauer's wall ceramics and watercolors meet Steckholz's paintings.

Opening of the exhibition: June 27, 2026, at 4 p.m. with opening performance

Duration of the exhibition: June 28 - September 20, 2026

Opening hours: Thursday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Common to both methods of working is the interest in gesture and the score, which documents the transience of a choreography beyond the moment of its performance in new sign systems. In a performative installation by Veronika Hauer in collaboration with Australian artist Katie Lee, new, unpredictable systems of meaning emerge through the careful play with ceramic objects and language between performers and the audience. Steckholzer's paintings weave various time periods in Loose Ends Dance. They were initially created as temporary dance hand gestures for the first room of the gallery and are therefore ephemeral. In the second room, they respond to the dance movements of the shown bones of Hauer and abstractly capture them on canvas.

Veronika Hauer (*1981, Klosterneuburg) is a visual artist and educator. The interrelationships between art and viewer, gesture and language, meaning and nonsense form the core of Veronika Hauer’s multimedia works. Her conceptually shaped installations include performances, sculpture, drawing, and graphic design and have been shown, among others, at project8 (Melbourne); ICA Studio (London); Glasgow International Festival; Neue Galerie Graz; Grazer Kunstverein; Galerie im Taxispalais (Innsbruck);

Martina Steckholzer (*1974, Sterzing) works in painting on paper and canvas and designs site-specific and permanent installations. These are mostly implemented in a sculptural and photographic manner. Her works can be found in museum and private collections as well as public places in Austria and Italy.
