Orchard Gardens

Fruit orchards in the district of Hopfgarten in the natural park community of Wildalpen, as well as in Palfau and Gams in the natural park community of Landl, serve to preserve old and rare fruit varieties (primarily apples and pears) from traditional orchards of the Nature and Geopark Styrian Eisenwurzen.

The natural park, in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Forestry AG, Forestry Operation Styria, aims to preserve the various varieties in this so-called gene preservation garden for future generations. Further information about the varieties can be found on-site. The freely accessible orchards are also ideal for reaching while on a walk. Keep your eyes open – you can discover traditional orchards all along the path.
