The walk from Leoben’s main square to the Schmollhube combines the charm of the town with a walk through the countryside. Following well-marked paths, the route leads through the town and then steadily uphill through shady woodland to the Schmollhube. With its peaceful setting and a place to stop for refreshments, this popular destination is the perfect spot for a relaxing break. The route is ideal for a varied half-day hike.

By car:
Take the S6 Semmering Expressway to the Leoben Ost or Leoben West exit, then follow the signs to the town centre until you reach Hauptplatz Leoben. Parking is available in the Hauptplatz underground car park, the LCS car park and other car parks in the town centre.
By public transport:
Leoben is easily accessible by train from Graz, Vienna, Bruck an der Mur and other towns. From Leoben main station, it is about a 10- to 15-minute walk to Hauptplatz; alternatively, several city bus routes operate.

The starting point for the walk is the main square in Leoben. From there, the route leads past St James’ Church and on towards Maßenburg. The marked walking trail then winds steadily uphill through shady woodland to the Schmollhube. The route mainly follows well-maintained forest tracks and marked walking paths. After stopping for refreshments or a rest at the Schmollhube, the return journey follows the same route back to the main square. Those wishing to extend the walk can continue from the Schmollhube towards the Gstattmoaralm or Mugel.
Alternative: Drive to the Klein-Gößgraben car park. The walk to the Schmollhube takes about three-quarters of an hour.
