More information
The starting point of this tour is at the parking lot of the Billa supermarket in St. Peter Freienstein.
The starting point of this tour is at the parking lot of the Billa supermarket in St. Peter Freienstein and, after crossing the railroad line, leads northward along the railroad line past Friedhofen Castle and Freiensteinerhof to the left on the Traidersberg. The long ascent winds first in open fields with magnificent views of the Reiting massif and Trofaiach basin and later in the forest to the lowlands. This section offers a magnificent panoramic view also into the Liesing valley, the Gleinalpe and to Leoben with the Donawitz steelworks. The last few hundred meters to the highest point of the route you cycle past some farms and at the former excursion inn "Schollinger" begins a last short climb before the descent leads back to Donawitz. Here, too, it is worth stopping regularly to take a look at the huge voestalpine plant with its steelworks - the blast furnaces dominate the picture - and the rail rolling mill. From Donawitz, the route now leads back along the plant via Neuwerk and the Schörglhof settlement to the starting point.
The route is 2% on bike paths and 98% on secondary roads. The condition of these roads and paths is divided into 60% asphalt and 40% gravel.
