A varied mountain bike loop from Leoben-Seegraben over the Veitsberg into the Laintal Valley. After the challenging climb, a magnificent view awaits at the highest point, before the route leads back to the starting point via the Laintal Valley, St. Peter-Freienstein, and Leoben.

The Laintal Loop MTB LE02 combines a challenging ride with varied scenic views around Leoben, Proleb, and Trofaiach. Starting at the Miners’ Monument in Seegraben, the route first heads uphill over the Veitsberg. The route climbs steadily along forest trails until, after a long ascent, the highest point of the tour is reached. It’s worth taking a short break here to enjoy the view toward the Laintal Valley and the surrounding mountains. This is followed by a long descent down into the Laintal Valley. Passing through the municipality of Trofaiach, the loop continues on to St. Peter-Freienstein. Particularly striking here is the Maria Freienstein pilgrimage church, visible from afar. The route then continues via Donawitz back to Leoben. The final section leads through the city and finally back to Seegraben, the starting point. Given its length and the elevation gain, the tour requires a good level of basic fitness. It is suitable for experienced mountain bikers as well as e-mountain bikes.

Leoben is easily accessible via the S6 Semmering Expressway from both the Murtal and Mürztal directions. To reach the tour’s starting point, follow the signs toward Seegraben. The starting point is located at the Miners’ Monument in Seegraben. Parking is available in the Bergmannsplatz area and its immediate vicinity. Please use only designated public parking areas.

From the starting point at the Seegraben Bergmann Monument, the Veitsberg Trail marks the beginning of the tour’s longer ascent. Following the Veitsberg Trail, the route climbs steadily and gradually leads away from populated areas. The trail winds through the forest along forest roads and continues toward Veitsberg. After about 13 kilometers, you’ll reach the highest point of the tour. It’s worth taking a short break here to enjoy the view of the Laintal valley. Then the long descent into the Laintal begins. Following the route, you continue out of the valley toward St. Peter-Freienstein. After about 25 kilometers, you reach the village, above which the Maria Freienstein pilgrimage church towers, visible from afar. From St. Peter-Freienstein, the route continues to Donawitz and past the voestalpine plant grounds. Passing through the town of Leoben, you finally return to the starting point.
