A challenging loop hike from Proleb over the Kreuzsattel and the Kletschachalm to the Kletschachkogel, featuring a variety of forest, alpine pasture, and forest trail sections.
The Kletschachkogel Loop combines a long mountain hike with varied scenic views. Starting from the church square in Proleb, the trail leads over the Veitsberg and the Kreuzsattel up to the Kletschachkogel.
Forest trails and logging roads alternate with narrow paths and open alpine meadows. Particular caution is required in the area between Kreuzsattel and Kletschachalm, as part of the route is unmarked.
After reaching the summit, the loop leads past the Kletschachalm and Kletschach back down into the valley. Finally, the route returns to Proleb via the Panoramaweg.

The starting point is the church square in Proleb. Take the village road uphill toward Simmonbauer and continue on to Veitsberg. From there, the route follows a marked forest trail toward Kreuzsattel.
At Kreuzsattel, first follow the trail markers toward “Thalerkogel/Tragöß” uphill. After about 100 meters, at the “Rattnertörl” sign, the trail branches off to the right. About 200 meters later, the marked trail veers diagonally left into the forest. Here, however, keep to the right and follow the improved forest road.
From this point on, the route is no longer marked.
Before the forest road begins to descend again, a narrow trail branches off to the left, leading uphill into a cow pasture. Follow this trail diagonally uphill through the forest to the first steep meadow of the Kletschachalm.
Continue uphill to the alp via a narrow path. At the upper edge of the meadow, the route continues uphill along the fence and finally leads to the summit cross of the Kletschachkogel.
From the summit, descend along a forest road toward the Kletschachalm. Follow the road to the Kletschachalm/Kotzalm junction and take the path leading downhill there.
The forest road leads to a gate. Turn right there and continue toward Kletschachmüller. The route then leads into the village of Kletschach.
At the bridge, look for the “Panoramaweg” sign on the left. Follow the Panoramaweg toward Proleb and finally return to the starting point at the church square.

For this long and physically demanding hike, sturdy hiking boots with good traction, weather-appropriate clothing, and plenty of drinks and snacks are required.
Packing your backpack properly makes things much easier: Store heavy items close to your body, keep your water bottle within easy reach, and pack frequently used items like sunglasses, a hiking map, or sunscreen at the top. Every hiking backpack should include emergency gear, including blister bandages. Dressing in layers is also recommended.
Since some sections of the trail are unmarked, it’s advisable to bring up-to-date maps, GPS or offline navigation, and a fully charged cell phone.
