Vortrag im Kammerhofmuseum - Wolfgang Eckel

The Aussee Festival Weeks 1945 and the Ausseerland Orchestra

Wolfgang G. Eckel is a political scientist and historian. Numerous publications, e.g. "Wienseer" (1915), Wissenskammer-Verlag

From the Reichsrundfunk-Bruckner Orchestra Linz and St. Valentin via Aussee to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Albrecht Gaiswinkler is still regarded today as an important figure in the resistance against National Socialism in the Salzkammergut. After the end of the war, he offered himself to the Americans as a local agent of the British secret service and became a powerful figure in Ausseerland as a "government commissioner".

Wolfgang Gurlitt also belonged to the cultural network of this dazzling personality.

Under Gaiswinkler's protectorate, the Aussee Festival took place in the late summer of 1945, although people were suffering from hunger and housing shortages. The "Ausseerland Orchestra" in particular knew how to thrill audiences with its excellent symphony concerts. No wonder, as it was formed from part of the former Reichsrundfunk Bruckner Orchestra of St. Florian and Linz. In April 1945, it was transferred by Gauleiter August Eigruber to the confiscated Elisabeth Sanatorium in Bad Aussee.
