With comic drawings Simon Schwartz tells the eventful history of the Altaussee salt mountain and the art goods stored in the mountain.
The Altaussee salt mine has a long and moving history. Salt has mined here since the year 1147. For centuries, it has been an important foundation for livelihoods. From 1943 to 1945, the mine was used during the era of National Socialism to hide and store valuable artworks and cultural objects. For this shared project of Salzwelten GmbH and the 2024 Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut, the artist Simon Schwartz will engage with the tumultuous history of the Altaussee salt mine and the artworks stored in the mind as well as their recovery. He will tell the story in comic drawings and present them in a freely accessible exhibition in the Steinberghaus.Contributors:
