Bio-Blumen Vom Hügel - Margrit de Colle

Eichkögl

Organic flowers from the hill in Eichkögl: cut flowers, workshops, and a garden café from the farm.

Flower farmer – even though this profession is still little known: Margrit de Colle practices it. Since moving from Graz to Eichkögl over ten years ago with her husband and two children and taking over an old farm there, her eye for colors, structures, and materials in nature has continuously sharpened.

Her journey led her, through various detours, from fashion school, studying sociology, and spending time abroad in Nigeria to the art of Ikebana, the Japanese style of flower arrangement. She then completed her floral master examination and, as a heartfelt project, established the first Austrian certified organic flower farm. In workshops, wreaths, bouquets, and decorations made from flowers, branches, leaves, and grasses are created for home or celebrations. The offerings are accompanied by a vegetarian garden café that has been in operation since 2017, providing a space for tranquility and interaction.

From flowers, shrubs, blossoms, and other natural materials collected on walks through her own meadows, forests, and fields, floral works are created in rhythm with the seasons. For Margrit de Colle, it feels right to grow herself – seasonal, regional, organic, and fair.

Almost every month, seasonal workshops invite people to the workshop “Vom Hügel”, with a view over the Raab Valley. Highlights throughout the year include the Spring Festival, Garden Pleasure Days, the Organic Flower Festival in autumn, and the beginning of Advent. All flowers come from her own agricultural production and are processed according to the season (“Slow Flowers” – seasonal cut flowers from her own production).

The approximately 6.5-hectare garden “Vom Hügel” combines agricultural work with artisanal design. “One must feel, smell, walk, and get hands-on,” says Margrit de Colle.
