Mariazellerweg section Birkfeld - Schanzsattel along the Waisenbach and through the Elmleiten to the Schanzsattel

The start of this section is in Birkfeld Auergraben and the trail runs along the Waisenbach stream with refreshments and overnight accommodation available at the Hammerlschmied inn and also at the Schanzsattel mountain inn.

This section of the pilgrimage trail begins in Birkfeld at the foot of the Auerberg in the Auergraben and goes along the Waisenbach, after approx. 1 km we pass the catchment basin of the Waisenbach, after approx. 300 m we leave this forest path and continue along a path on the right, then a hiking trail
We walk past a farm and continue through the forest and the edge of the meadow
We cross the Waisenbach over a wooden bridge and pass an abandoned sawmill
After approx. 1km we come to the Hammerlschmied inn, where we can stop for a bite to eat and spend the night
We continue on the road along the Waisenbach stream and follow the red and white markings until we reach the Schanzsattel, where we can stop for refreshments at the Berggasthaus Schanzsattel

Refreshments and overnight accommodation are available at the Gasthaus Hammerlschmied and also at the Schanzsattel mountain inn.
