Hiking trail from Weiz to the Stross

Open

The hike starts directly at the main square in Weiz and leads into the first forest section after just a few minutes. It offers different paths over asphalt, meadow and forest.

The Stross is the local mountain of Mortansch. Close to Weiz, it is therefore possible to start on foot in the district capital. This hiking trail covers asphalt, meadow and forest. The path begins in the town and changes into the forest after a few minutes. A little later, there is a small meadow section and then a stretch on the road. Shortly afterwards, the path climbs into the forest to the summit of the Stross. Beautifully surrounded by trees and bushes, you follow the path, which is clearly visible in the forest. The small paths make you feel like you are in an avenue. Several viewing opportunities are offered during the hike and small benches also invite you to take a break for a snack or just to linger for a while. Once you have reached the top, there is also a bench for a more substantial refreshment. Of course, signing the summit book is always welcome.

Routen planner

  • We start at the main square in Weiz and walk past the Tabor Church on the left. Here we keep to the road and follow the Austrian flags with the number 15 on the street lamps to the forest. When we reach the forest, we follow the path that leads away from the signpost on the left.
  • We walk along the path until we reach the upper end of the forest. Here we leave the forest towards the road and walk up over the meadow. At the top, we follow the road to the right and after a short while we come to a road junction.
  • We cross this straight on and follow the road a little further. After a short ascent, we see a car park on the left and a spring catchment for the water supply. Here the path leads upwards to the left towards the forest.
  • When you reach the forest, a path goes left into the forest. We follow this path up to the summit. In between we come to a clearing where there is a small bench inviting us to take a short rest.
  • Then we pass it on the left and follow the path up to the summit. After a short ascent, there are several branching-off possibilities and we follow the path to the right and then straight on again.
  • We reach the summit after a few minutes.
  • We return via the same path.

Take a snack with you and take a break at the numerous rest stops on the hike.
