The route takes us from the “Roseggerhaus”(Closed in 2026 for renovations) shelter on the Pretul from 1586m over the ridge of the Pretulalpe to the Stuhleck (1782m). When the weather is nice you have a wonderful view!

Beautiful mountain trail in the highest peaks of the Joglland - Waldheimat region: From the Roseggerhaus (Closed in 2026 for renovations) on the Pretul you always hike along the Central Alpine Trail 02 to the next peak, the Stuhleck. On the Pretul there is a special viewing point: the Peter Bergner lookout. The control room was built in memory of a former hut owner who died. The numerous wind turbines on the Rattener Alm (35 wind turbines) and on the Pretul (14 wind turbines) are also unmissable on this hike. You can get to the Rattener Alm in about 30 minutes on foot from the Pretul.

Ratten is located approx. 25 km north of the district capital Weiz between Pretulaple and Joglland in the upper Feistriztal valley.

Ratten, Roseggerhaus (free)

From the Rosegger Schutzhaus (Closed in 2026 for renovations) we hike along the Central Alpine Trail 02 (path no. 740) to the Peter Bergner Warte. This control room was built for Peter Bergner, the landlord of the Rosegg refuge, who was murdered in 1904. From there we hike along the tree-free ridge over the Geiereck and the Schwarzriegel to the Stuhleck with the Alois Günther House (+43 3853 300). When the weather is good there is a breathtaking view even as far as Hungary and Slovenia.

A few tips on correct and fair behaviour in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at )

Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active during this time.

Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any rubbish in the forest.

Camping and lighting fires are strictly forbidden in the forest!

In principle, every person is allowed to pick 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use. It is only prohibited if the forest owner expressly forbids it.

Route description
Before starting the hike, check the possibilities for refreshments, including opening times, or pack appropriate food and drink.

This hike is also a section of the alpannonia long-distance hiking trail from Fischbach to Köszeg.
