The stage of the touring mountain bike route “Der große Jogl” leads from St. Jakob im Walde via Rettenegg, St. Kathrein am Hauenstein, Falkenstein and Fischbach to Birkfeld.

  • We start in St. Jakob im Walde to Rettenegg
  • We follow the country road for a short distance
  • Before we turn into Rettenegg, we continue on to Ratten
  • In Ratten we make a detour to the Pretul
  • We stay on the main route and ride to St. Kahtrein am Hauenstein
  • In the mining area, we turn right to the Roseggerhof farm
  • At the Roseggerhof we come to the Alpl, where we turn right
  • At the Schlagbauer crossroads, we head towards Waldtoni-Alm
  • From there a path leads to Fischbach
  • From Fischbach we ride to Birkfeld

Sankt Jakob im Walde is located approx. 24 km northwest of the district capital Hartberg in the far northwest of the Hartberg district. The municipality belongs to Joglland.
By car:
From Vienna: via the A2 to the Friedberg exit and B54 to Rohrbach, then via Mönichwald to St. Jakob im Walde
From Graz: via the A2 to the Rohrbach - Vorau exit, then to Rohrbach and on to Waldbach and St. Jakob im Walde
From the S6 Krieglach exit via the Alpl to Ratten and St. Jakob im Walde

  • Leave no tracks!
  • Respect other nature users!
  • Show consideration for animals (only ride in daylight & close pasture fences)!
  • Avoid noise and garbage!
  • Use the cycle routes at your own risk!
  • Beware of working machines, wood or potholes on the road, grazing livestock and vehicle traffic (forest roads are working areas and workplaces)!
 
A few tips on correct and fair behavior:
Cycling and mountain biking in the forest (oesterreich.gv.at)

Cyclists should avoid visiting the forest approx. 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wild animals are particularly active at this time.
Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts etc. have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any garbage in the forest.
Camping and making fires is strictly forbidden in the forest!
