Beetle bean tour with panoramic view
Open
A varied circular tour with rides through mixed forests, the town of Gleisdorf with its beautifully landscaped main square and over ridges with panoramic views of the apple country with Lake Stubenberg and the Raab Valley. In and around St. Ruprecht an der Raab - located in the heart of the Raab Valley in Eastern Styria and not far from Graz - there are numerous cycling and hiking tours that take us into and through the Garden of Austria, as Eastern Styria is also affectionately called.
The beetle bean fields are marked with their own signs!
Around the Raabtalradweg, which leads from the Almenland to the Thermenland in south-eastern Styria, numerous circular tours have been established starting from St. Ruprecht an der Raab, which are an ideal complement to a relaxing active holiday in eastern Styria. The town of Gleisdorf as well as the wine taverns along the tour invite you to a cosy stopover. The circular tour is made up of the merging of several cycle paths. Orientation is good and clearly laid out - simply follow the route numbers listed in the following route description.

Route planner
- We start at the Peace Grotto on the main square, the central starting point of all cycle paths in St. Ruprecht an der Raab. At Locker & Légere we turn into Parkstraße and at the roundabout right next to the park in St. Ruprecht we reach the WZ9 Freiberg cycle path.
- We follow this and leave the village of St. Ruprecht an der Raab. The first short ascent soon awaits us. Short in the truest sense of the word, because after just a few metres we reach the ridge, where we keep left at the crossroads and get onto the Freibergweg.
- We cycle on and arrive at the Golf Club Freiberg, a beautiful course that makes every golfer's heart beat faster. But that's not all: right behind it you can't miss Freiberg Castle, which is often rented for weddings and cultural events and also houses a restaurant.
- We continue cycling through mixed forests via Ludersdorf, where we meet the R52 Hönigtalradweg, keep to the left and thus reach the shopping town of Gleisdorf, which is characterised by exciting projects, especially in the energy sector. At the town parish church on the main square, we keep left and take the WZ4 cycle path slightly uphill along Kernstockgasse in a north-easterly direction.
- After a few hundred metres, the WZ4 branches off onto the Sandriegelweg, which soon joins the Hohenbergweg. After a few short serpentines, we reach a junction where we turn left onto the WZ10. We now follow this road in sections along the East Styrian Roman Wine Road and the Styrian Apple Road. Wine and apples are also our scenic companions on this tour along the ridge we are now on.
- In the village of Prebuch with the Apfelschlössl café, which tempts you to stop for a bite to eat, we now keep to the left and continue on the WZ10. Other cycle paths such as the Ilztalradweg R10 and the WZ1 have now joined us.
- A few metres after the settlement of Wolga, we keep to the right and immediately left again and continue to cycle along the ridge, which soon brings us past apple orchards and through beautiful mixed forests to Krottendorf, a suburb of the city of Weiz.
- In Krottendorf we have to take a very sharp left turn - almost 180° - to cycle back towards St. Ruprecht an der Raab. We follow the FunErgyTour signs for a short distance and soon reach the R11 Raabtalradweg at Regerstätten.
- Following the cycle path through small villages and settlements, we cycle gently downhill to Unterfladnitz, where we reach Arndorf after a "right-left combination" via Neudorf. Here St. Ruprecht an der Raab can already be seen from afar.
- The last few metres of the circular tour are under the main road and after about 40 metres at the bridge we turn right towards the centre of St. Ruprecht. After a few more metres, we turn left into the romantically situated Weizbachgasse.
- We then cross a small bridge to the left and after a few metres turn right, cross the Weizbach and arrive back at our starting point at the main square of St. Ruprecht an der Raab.
There are several parking spaces available on the
main square in St. Ruprecht. Alternatively, about 150 m away, past the Hotel Locker & Legere and the Marktheurigen Strobl, there are numerous parking spaces at the large park in the middle of St. Ruprecht an der Raab.
