Refuge to the Mesnerhaus
Grafendorf
Fantastic view - cosy get-togethers in the old parlour or in the friendly, bright annexe!
On the eastern slope of the Maßenberg, at an altitude of 926 meters, surrounded by meadows and fields, stands the Mesnerhaus. When the Mesnerhaus was built is not exactly known. The year 1812 is carved into the passage. Initially, the Mesnerhaus served as a school for Pongrazen and Zeilerviertel. According to oral traditions and school records, instruction took place in the Mesnerhaus from 1760 to 1885. The responsible Mesner of St. Pankrazen Church always taught.
In the current guest room was the classroom, which accommodated up to 77 students. The Mesnerhaus also served as a residence for the Mesner, who had a small farm with a few cows and pigs. The school year 1884/85 was the last in the Mesnerhaus. From then on, only one Mesner lived in house number 16. At the end of April 1945, the Mesnerhaus was heavily shot at from Zeilerviertel. A bullet hole from that time is still visible today. In 1955, the last Mesner moved out.
Since 1986, the Mesnerhaus has been run by the Gleichweit family as a shelter and offers a place of reflection and enjoyment for both hikers and visitors of various celebrations.
